This is at the end of a walk on Torrey Pines State Beach in north San Diego. This is as far as I could go as the tide was coming in . In fact, my way out was also becoming untenable as the waterline was at the cliff face with no beach left to walk on. There was a walkway up to the park trails which I took. Torrey Pines State Park is an amazing place with miles of trails that will keep you walking for hours.

This was the scene this morning on the South side at Torrey Pines Golf course. We had thick fog as the cold ocean air moved inland. When it’s as early in the morning as when this was taken, all is quiet and serene. No golfers on the course for obvious reasons and it just seems like you’re all alone in the world.

Then it was up to the office for coffee and the start of a busy day!

Today’s photograph is an HDR taken with my Canon G11 on a joby tripod, neat stuff. I carry this light gear for my daily walk. Today I ventured onto the beach near La Jolla, California. It’s a clothing optional beach but I stay focused on my landscape subjects.

There was a lot of fresh seaweed on the sand today, and it was close to high tide so it was still fresh with lots of color. This is looking south towards La Jolla from Black’s Beach.

The photo was a 3 set exposure +2/-2 processed in Photomatix with adjustments in Nik’s Viveza2 and Lightroom3.

Today’s experiment is a combination of post processing. This one is still about composition but I was frankly more interested in experimenting with HDR in black and white. This is a five shot exposure +2/-2 processed in Photomatix Pro. From there I took the HDR to Nik’s Silver Efex Pro where I used their U point technology to highlight and vary the impact of various areas in the photograph to see how I could change the effect. This photo actually looks quite different in B&W than it does in the color version. I’ll post both of them so you can see how the impact of the photograph changes between black and white versus color. So, the subject could be much better, but I was really using this as a learning experience in post processing…hope you’ll bear with me.

Here’s the B&W version:

And here’s the same HDR photo in color:

I worked hard in the yard today not leaving much time for my photo of the day. But, part of my chores involved replacing an electronic watering valve which took less time to fix than it did to go back and forth to pick up parts. Of course, I couldn’t do it in one trip, I had to make three trips to the hardware store as I discovered new pieces I needed to finish the job. In the end, I got to test the repair and I’m happy to say it all came out well as evidenced by my sprinklers doing their job here. So, I mixed in work with my Project365 photo to make it all work. This photograph is processed in Topaz Adjust 4 to give it some pop and interesting texture with some curve adjustments in Lightroom 3.
